Matt Scorringe

Since the first time I stood up on a wave everything in my life has revolved around surfing. I started competing at the age of 10 and represented New Zealand at the age of 14. I went on to compete on the World U20 Pro Junior Series, and World Qualifying Series. I became close friends with World Championship Tour surfer Josh Kerr, who offered me the opportunity to assist him on the 2009 World Championship Tour. I attended all 12 WCT events with Josh, filming every surf and heat, analysing where he could improve. I returned home at the end of the 2009 WCT season to have my world turned upside down when I was diagnosed with leukaemia. Over the course of the next two years I underwent extensive chemotherapy treatment, studied and learned as much as I could about natural health, nutrition and well-being and went on to win my fight with cancer. I developed The Art Of Surfing – High Performance Coaching as a way of passing on the knowledge and skills I have gained through my experiences to the next generation of aspiring New Zealand surfers.
